Sure sounds annoying to me ...

How about setting another tag for the record when you complete each
update?

Then continue on through the list.

When you've completed the whole list, untag the first tag if the
second one is set.

Then untag the second tag.

Now you're left with a  tagged list of the records which you didn't
update.
