Hi Lucie, > Somehow I Have lost 2 family files and and I am stuck on Asa Brown. > What did I do and how do I get back my files???
Do you mean that (a) you cannot locate your files, or that (b) the sample file (with Asa Brown) is the one that is open when you start Legacy? If the former (a), do a search of your computer for files of the name of your data file(s), or for any file that ends .fdb. Just how you do that may depend on what version of Windows you're running. On my Windows 7 machine I can press the Windows key (which is the same action as taking your cursor to the Start button and clicking on it) and the cursor is already in a search box where I can type what I'm looking for. In older versions of Windows you may need to go to Windows Explorer, or select My Computer after pressing the Windows key, to start your search. I don't have those in front of me to check and give you specifics, sorry. If you cannot locate your file(s) and they really have disappeared, you will have to retrieve it/them from a backup. If the latter (b), then in Legacy click on File > Open Family File, then navigate to where your data file is kept and select it. You can tell Legacy to always open a particular file, by going to Options > Customise > General tab > Starting Family File and selecting "Always open this file" and navigate to the file you want opened. Or you can set it to open the file you last had open, or to always ask (prompt) you for the file you want. Hope this helps. :-) Wendy Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com).
