My IT guy said the same thing ("shut down and leave it for a bit") but
I asked him about it. He said that the network manager programs
periodically run a clean up and logs out of all of the servers anyone
who has disconnected without logging out. When you get one of those
unexplainable network errors it probably means that some control table
somewhere got out of sync. He said it was faster to wait for the
network manager to take care of it than for him to figure it out.
Seemed to work.I'm not an IT guy so some may have been lost in translation, but my takeaway was that the "shut down and leave it for a bit" only helps if you are on a network. -Jack -----Original Message----- From: Ron Ferguson <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tue, Aug 2, 2011 6:19 am Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] a very strange thing! Mike, I also picked up the "shut down and leave it for a bit" message years ago, and use it more out of habit than for any other reason. The only benefit that I can imagine is that it will allow the machine to cool down a little.
