I agree. When I do import I create a source for the GEDCOM like "GEDCOM Import from..." and source all incoming fields using that. I also keep the original GEDCOM around because I usually don't import sources from a GEDCOM (because I haven't sourced them myself) ... that way I can look back at the original GEDCOM for clues if need be. To be honest with you, I rarely import other people's GEDCOMs anymore ... that was something I did as a newbie.
