Alan, Thanks for the detailed reply!
I thought LEGACY/GEDCOM might have an 'easy' way of extracting a specific subset like this. I'll study your instructions and give it a try. gc On Thu, 1 Sep 2011 16:28:08 +0100 "Alan Pereira" <[email protected]> writes: gc, this need to be done in a number of steps 1) Use the miscellaneous seach by a) selecting the oldest member of the tree you want to send and chosing the "View / Select Focus Group". b) Clear the list if you already have used this feature before or save the original list to a file before clearing it, if you wish to reuse it. c) Use the 2nd column middle option of "Add and individual and Descendants" d) take the default option of "Descendants" and NOT "Entire Descendant Line" from the next dialogue window called "Decendant Options" e) Click OK on the "Current Individual" window f) Click OK again on the Focus Group window g) Select "Create List" from the "Current Individual" window 2) You now have a list of all the descendants which you can tag by a) select "Options" at the bottom of the search list and choose "Advanced Tagging" b) Using a Tag that you have not previously used set the tag number in the windows called "Make changes on tag" values 1-9 are available c) Clear any tagging you already have against that tag number by i) select the Untag radio button ii) single left click on everyone (1st column middle option) d) Select the tag radio button e) single left click on "Everyone in Search List" ( 1st column bottom option) You now have all this group tagged with the tag number you wanted to use. 3) Go back to Search and switch from Miscellaneou to Detailed Search a) Primary condition is Individual where Tag (you number) is equal to tagged b) Check the box "second condition" c) select born or died before 1850 [Not clear what you wanted there] You now have the list you want You can use (2) above to tag this reduced list with another tag number and then export to either a gedcom of a Legacy file by choseing to export by record selection all records that match your last tag Caviat. If you have blank birth or death dates option 3 may have to be more complex Sorry for the lengthy response but I could not think of another way of doing it. Can this be done and if so, how? Those w/o dates cause a problem? I wish to exchange limited material from my file with another individual who has nothing on the individual prior to 1850.
