I have struggled for years on this same subject - what needs to be shared
with the family and how best to share it so that they will understand it and
want to share the information with their own families.  I am watching this
thread with great interest.  For now, I am settling for 'storybooks'
emphasizing the family photos, simple pedigree charts and information and
stories that would interest the non-genealogist.  Hoping that will spark
their interest and will later request more detailed information.  Many of my
family members from several different lines have requested that I put
something together like this for them but they get lost in the things that
we revel in haha!  (Like those census and event data that you mentioned)  I
appreciate all of the comments and advice that is being given here very
much!
