I use the Search - Miscellaneous Tab
Before doing this ascertain the oldest Ancestor in each branch.
Repeat this for each of your 4 Ancestors
In the "Current Individual" click change and select one of your 4 Ancestors
After the selection you will be returned to the "Current Individual" window.
Select "Focus Group" radio button
Click below that on the Button labelled "View / Select Focus Group"
If the displayed window in not empty, click on Clear List from the Right hand
Menu
You have a choice of 6 selection buttons. You want "Add an Individual and
Descendants"
Clicking on this will open a window where you set the number of generations 999
and leave the default selection to just "Descendants"
click OK - you will be returned back to the previous "Focus Group" window
Click on Save the Right hand Menu and name your Ancestror line
Click OK (Top right off of that window) - you will be returned to the "Current
Individual" window.
Click on the button botton second from left "Create List"
When the list is displayed - Click Options - select Advanced Tagging
select the Tag number you want to use (Put some words in the Tag Descriptions
to help)
Change the radio button for the tag to untag
click on everyone - to clear any tags previously assigned to that tag number
change untag to tag
select "Everyone in Search List"

Repeat for the other 3 Ancestors

You might want to think about not using Tags for this purpose as having saved
your Focus Group you can always reload it and re-created the list.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Advanced Tagging Help Needed

I have reserved 4 tags for my 4 grandparents surnames. I want to tag
branches of people appropriately, but I can't seem to figure out how
to do it.
If I pick a grandparent, I'd like to tag both descendants and
ancestors with their surname (Say tag1 represents COOK).
If I tag just the line, I do not seem to be getting the some of the
people I wish to include, such as a souses parents or siblings.

If I tag all related in the line (and I believe only when I do the
ancestors), then it seems that may entire database gets tagged.
In this case I am guessing that coming down from my grandparent to me,
and then everyone in my file has a connection to me (as I am the hub
person, so to speak) so people in my moms line get tagged as part of
my dads line.

Somehow the 4 color coding figures this out ok. How can I do it
myself for my tags?
