Jane, Yes, that is correct, the husbands RIN has ‘H’ in front, the wife’s ‘W’ and the MRIN has an ‘M’.
There are various ways of filing and using MRINs is one, indeed it is the one favoured by Geoff. This, and others can be found by visiting “Tips from Experts” which can be accessed under the Legacy Home tab on your program – in the box on the bottom right of that page. From here you can find pages on how to find all sorts of things, including paper filing. However to save you the bother, you will find that that leads to http://www.fileyourpapers.com/legacy/legacy5.html A MRIN will only be registered if (1) a person is married, or (2) has a child, or (3) various ways where there may have been a child/wife etc.. To find the latter I suggest that you look at the Marriage List (View>Marriage List) to see if there are any of these so called ‘ghost marriages’. These can be deleted – note do not delete if there are children. I am assuming the 3 numbers at the bottom of the family screen (at bottom right) are the husband's id number, the MRIN (marriage id number) and the wife's id number. Apparently, even though I have not found marriage information, the program assigns an MRIN number. I am revamping my filing system and plan to do it by MRIN. Am I correct here? Neither"Help" nor the manual answered my question for certain. Jane S.
