You cannot simply change the file extension (the three letters after the
dot in the filename) as the extension is specific to the type of file.
A Word document is essentially what it wounds like, a document of words,
although it might have pictures included with or without the words.  JPG
is a picture format.  If you take a photograph of a headstone you
probably unload it from your camera/'phone as a .jpg.

When you want to attach a new document you must tell Legacy where the
file is saved and what the name of it is so that Legacy can load it and
you use the File button.  When you want to attach a picture you do the
same, but use the Picture button.

If you are still having problems please tell us *exactly* what you are
doing, step by step, so we can see where you are going wrong.
