Jenny: Using a "code word" as you suggest is the way I sort my Master List now but switching over to Geoff's method and also typing "Location" before every one of those source names would be something of a chore. Bruce suggested using an asterisk to force a different arrangement but any punctuation mark puts that source name at the top of the list which is not quite what I'm looking for. The best option I can see so far is to preceed names of a couple of the smaller groups of source types with an "x" or "xx" to force them to the bottom of the list. That way I'd have a very large group of census sources sorted by year at the top of the list followed by a large group of location sources and then a few smaller groups such as book titles, websites or surnames forced to the bottom with an "x" (or perhaps "xb" for book) preceeding the title.
Having several hundred sources, I'm anxious to think it through before diving in, so thanks for your perspective. I don't use Geoff's method - my Sources are sorted first by type, eg Birth Index, Census, Website etc. If you want to use a variant of Geoff's approach without having, as you say, Find a Grave between Connecticut and Florida you could precede each title with the word Location, Website, etc then all States/Cities would be alphabetical in the Location section, all Websites alphabetical in their section and so on. -- Jenny M Benson Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com).
