I think someone else said this and gave more detailed instructions but I thought I'd chime in here. I was kinda doing what you are and that just got too much like work :-) Save your Legacy working file to your Dropbox folder and leave it there. All you have to do is 'save as' from your Legacy program and save it to the Dropbox. The next time you open Legacy it may try to open your original file from your desktop so manually open the one from the Dropbox. From then on, it should just open it automatically. As a precaution, remove that file from the desktop and rename it something like 'Nov 30 copy of xyz family file working file resides in dropbox/legacyworkingfiles' or whatever you need to do to prompt yourself to always use the correct file. I cannot tell you how many times a similar thing has happened to me over the years; in my case, it was definitely user error, forgetting to watch carefully as to which file I was opening. Make sure when you do your backup, it's going to the right place too. After that, it should go there automatically. Same principle applies to whichever additional files you might have. I personally keep everything in one file but I do have some collateral lines that I keep separate. If it's a 'working file' I name it that way and I keep it in Dropbox and ONLY in dropbox or else it gets too confusing. If you want to back up dropbox once a month or so, copy those files from there into a file that says 'backups of family file from dropbox' so you can tell at a glance exactly what it is and that you do NOT open those files and start working from them. They are only for when the unthinkable happens and you've lost your database.
This is how I keep it straight anyway :-) Kathy On Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 2:11 PM, Roxanne <[email protected]> wrote: > Randy; my files live on my desktop, in their own corner.
