Why does it matter? There can be many reasons for the behaviour which you have 
observed. For example you say that they are *mostly* the same people, the fact 
is that the remainder will make a difference, the file compression may be 
slightly different. One may have more deleted records than another etc. I very 
much doubt if you will ever find the answer – as long as they work, why bother?

I need some tips on reducing file size. I'm having a little trouble. I have two 
large fdb files. They are mostly the same people. One file has 5% more people 
than the other, but is 5% smaller. Something is going on that I don't 
understand. I:
1. Purge unlinked individuals
2. Clean Master lists
3. Check/Repair
4. Compact family file

There appear to be no pictures or multimedia but I'm not sure I'm searching 
properly.
