Ric,

As far as I know you cannot import a Legacy fdb file into Ancestry, only a
GEDCOM, so are you saying that your GEDCOM is 75MB? I’m afraid that I no longer
use Ancestry, preferring FMP, and whilst I have a couple or so very dated files
in their Trees Section I have not uploaded a file for years, so I’m somewhat
out of touch.

75MB is pretty big for a Legacy Family file, so how many individuals are in it?

I would like to upload to Ancestry.com which has a 75 MB limit. The file I
uploaded months ago has 7,000 more persons but is 4 MB smaller at 72 MB. I
cleaned all the duplicates out of the 72 MB file yet it is now 4 MB bigger.

  Ric,

Why does it matter? There can be many reasons for the behaviour which you
have observed. For example you say that they are *mostly* the same people, the
fact is that the remainder will make a difference, the file compression may be
slightly different. One may have more deleted records than another etc. I very
much doubt if you will ever find the answer – as long as they work, why bother?

I need some tips on reducing file size. I'm having a little trouble. I have
two large fdb files. They are mostly the same people. One file has 5% more
people than the other, but is 5% smaller. Something is going on that I don't
understand. I:
  1. Purge unlinked individuals
  2. Clean Master lists
  3. Check/Repair
  4. Compact family file

There appear to be no pictures or multimedia but I'm not sure I'm searching
properly.

  Ric
