Because the above message is sent using mime, the usual way of dealing with URL's that are too long; by creating a dummy message reply, which usually puts the whole of the URL as a contiguous string, does not work. Also, usually, with mailing list software, simply replying to a subscription request comfirmation message such as the message above, works to confirm thje subscription.
