I used to use the official date, but I found a lot of families who were 
enumerated twice, so I started keeping track with the date it was taken. Even 
though the enumerators were supposed to get the information as of the official 
date, I find that the information is often as of the date the census was taken. 
It's easy to find out the official date but not so easy to find the date taken 
without looking at the actual page.

That is what I have always done too but in the last webinar that Geoff did (the 
new census tool), he put the official date in as the date for the census event.
