If I can’t read the page number on the census I go 2 pages back and 2 pages 
forward to be sure what the page number is.

Jackie,  I think you are confirming my doubt that the "page number" is useful.  
Since I can't even read it on the particular image in question, I will most 
likely leave that off.  State, county, city, enumeration district, sheet # 
should be all anyone needs to get to this page.

Just a couple of comments on a couple of your questions. Online images 
sometimes do not remain static. It may be image 300 today - and later if the 
company that is hosting it changes something - it may become image 400. By 
citing the basics, almost anyone can find what they are looking for on almost 
any site.
