I know it's important to record the location as it >was during the time the record was taken. For example I have some that were >listed (by ancestry.com) as being in Carleton, Ontario; and Carleton, Ottawa >Ontario. This is what a search showed me: > > >Carleton County was established in 1798. > >From 1798-1824 this county was part of the Johnstown District. From 1824-1838 >Bathurst District, and finally 1838-1849 the Dalhousie District. In 1849 the >districts were abolished and counties took over. > >In 1968 Carleton County was 'dissolved' in favour of a new municipality. And >in 1969 became known as the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton. On 1 Jan >2001 this changed and became the City of Ottawa > > > >One record was in 1891 and one in 1926. So when I enter the location, it >should be Carleton (County) instead of Carlton, Ottawa, Ontario? And if any >records are found for between 1969-2001, would you put in the location: >Ottawa-Carleton, Ontario? And if it was during the "district" years, would you >note the district in the location (which would then go into the master >location list). Or am I not getting the way to do it at all? > > > >Another question, I couldn't find a place in the master location list for >notes. It would be nice to note the history of the location but I wouldn't >want to do it for each record. Is there a general place to enter it, where it >would be associated with the location - ie Ottawa-Carleton? If not is that a >possible feature suggestion - notes for the locations in the master location >list? > > >Thank you. >Peggy > > >Legacy User Group guidelines: >http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp >Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: >http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ >Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: >http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ >Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp >Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on >our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). >To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp > > > Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com).
