For this to work there must also be something linked to this source,
otherwise it will just change the original source and not ask to apply it to
a new source.

You haven't made it clear what you are trying to do, but if you mean you
want to create a Master Source and then create another one with much of
the same information, then all you need do is create the first one, then
edit it and save it as a NEW Source.

What I do, to avoid accidents, is create the first source and save it.
Then click on Edit, type in a new Source List Name and then immediately
click Save, selecting "Apply the changes to a new copy", then I click
Edit for the new Source and make all the further changes I need to.
Saving after just changing the Source List Name means that if by any
chance I click the wrong button and apply the changes to the original
Source then I have only "mucked up" the Name and not the whole Source.
