Yes, A few years ago I used Skydrive for storage only i.e. backup. In that
context it works well, I now use Dropbox for my current files and, hence it
is also there as a backup.

The reason you cannot use the Skydrive files on Legacy is that they are not
on your machine, which Legacy demands; with Dropbox they still are, of
course, and Dropbox synchronises the ones in your files (on however machines
you have them) with that in the Cloud, Skydrive does not.

Subject: [LegacyUG] File locations

For some time I've been using DROPBOX for a repository for the photos and
other documents for use in Legacy.

Recently I came across an alternative to DROPBOX that I decided to
try....Microsoft's SKYDRIVE. Reviewing the specs for it it seems to serve
the same function as DROPBOX, but you get twice the storage space (7 gb
vs 2 gb) for the same price...FREE! I installed it and have been playing
around with it using a PLAY VERSION of my master Legacy database.

As noted the first thing I did was make a copy of my master Legacy file
to a new location from the real one. I used the EXPORT - Legacy File
option rather than using the EXPORT - GEDCOM option.
Next I copied a few photos from the hundreds I have to this same new
location to use for testing purposes.

Then I opened the Legacy PLAY VERSION went to OPTIONS - Customize -
Locations and changed the PICTURE FILE to the path to SKYDRIVE where I
put my test photos and SAVED. Nowhere was there a reference to the path
for the REAL photo file.

I was surprised to find that photos of individuals NOT in the test photo
file still show up! When I edit one of them it still shows the path to
the real file, not the SKYDRIVE path. I would have thought, and was
assuming, any photos not in the test file would have the ? and message
"file not found"!

I went to an individual in the PLAY Legacy version who had a photo in the
PLAY photo file and attempted to add their photo again. After clicking on
the Picture Gallery Icon on the FAMILY screen; Picture and redirecting
the path to the SKYDRIVE folder for the Test Photos I added a picture
from that Test group. When I EDIT that new addition it (correctly)
identifies the path as being that of the SKYDRIVE folder.

The question/issus here is ONE - why do the REAL photos remain in tact?
TWO why isn't everything directed to the new location path I specified in
the OPTIONS?

I just want to be SURE this SKYDRIVE thing works before (possibly)
committing everything to this new cloud repository procedure only to find
out it's not working like I thought/assumed.

Anybody have any thoughts or experience using SKYDRIVE??
