Yes, that is correct. It's the result of one of my dau's rabbits deciding to have a computer lesson but she's only small and couldn't reach very well so she hopped onto the desk and onto the keyboard.* She didn't delete any data but she did manage to find another member of the family and wipe the history which I use as a reminder as to where I am with my research. Ingrid might have been a happy bunny but I was NOT. Mercifully when I booted up my other computer (several months later), there was the original point I had been at before Ingrid had her computer lesson. My usual laptop has 3391 individuals, 1081 families and 851 unique surnames (and, no, I am NOT researching them all, if anyone wonders <VBG>) plus 5 Master Sources. This is the machine with the older version of Legacy. The other laptop has has 3028 individuals, 870 families and 752 unique surnames plus 5 Master Sources. > If she loads one of them up to > dropbox and syncs it with the other she will end up with only one copy > of her file and will have lost the data differences because the copy on > one computer will be overwritten. I definitely don't want to sync the two and lose data. I'm not quite sure the best way of syncing the two. > Your suggestion will only work AFTER she has sorted out the data > differences and has one clean copy of her file that she wants kept > up-to-date on both machines to avoid these data differences in the future. It's also a good idea just in case either/both of the machines is stolen or I need to do a reformat and reinstall. In addition I have three external hard drives with copies on but they aren't so much of a worry because they get overwritten anyway. * Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any beverages or other items that have been splattered over monitors or down shirt fronts as a result of Ingrid's antics :D -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Ashcott, Shapwick, Greinton and Clutton, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com).
