This is a problem I've run into as well.

My core family is so large that it can't be saved.  I've had to do it
in 6 sections : first three generations, then the only surviving
child's family from the first marriage, then each of the four sons
from the second marriage and so on.  Each chart overlaps with the
previous one slightly.

I've put husbands or wives who've married into the family under each
other and dropped families below unmarried/childless/deceased children
and closed the families up.  Some generations have been shifted out of
alignment but with each one a different colour it still shows which
generation is which.

It would be useful if the descendent chart could be arranged
vertically instead of horizontally, similar to the ancestor chart.
