I have a system that in some ways is simple; in some ways complicated. Personally I LOVE it!
For ALL the pics in my Legacy family database I have them in a folder in My Pictures called "LEGACY-P" (for paternal side). (I have my paternal & maternal lines in separate databases--works for me) For pictures that are NOT people I name them __BKGR_COUNTRY_ST_COUNTY_name of picture, or __BLDG_ COUNTRY_ST_COUNTY_ name of bldg, or __CEM_ . . . ; __CENS; __DOC, etc. For people, I show how they're related to my paternal name (Prickett), e.g.,\ P_McC_Be_WHITE_WALKER_Susan m HENRY (for one of my 4 grgr grandmothers. (stands for Prickett, McConnell (my grandfather's wife; Beatie (her mother), White (her mother), Walker (her mother, who married John Henry). Whereas P_John b c1630 is my paternal 7x grgrandfather; P_John b c1695 is my paternal 5x grgrandfather. This system may sound complicated in a way, but it means I can locate all sorts of different pictures very easily, and that people in the same family are pretty much grouped together. Incidentally when I compress a picture while saving it I add a '-cmpr' at the end of the filename.
