I put None for the given name and CHILD ADOPTED in the surname field,
in a similar situation.  In the place of marriage field I specified
Single adoptive parent.

I would also prefer not to have an unknown spouse where there is no
known father because the child is illegitimate.  The mother might have
been in a relationship and been left holding the baby (literally) but
she might have been the victim of rape by a stranger in which case
"spouse" is inappropriate.
