Just curious, but why does it matter if "some of the main people had high numbers"? I have been researching for nearly 10 years and started in Legacy by entering the people from a hand-written tree compiled by a relative. Because of that, one of my 6th Great Grandfather is number 1 but another of my 6th Great Grandfathers I only found a month ago so his RIN is 4517. (I happen to be RIN 221.) If you want "important people" to have low numbers are you going to renumber every time your research throws up another direct-line ancestor? I use RINs as part of the UserID and use the RIN or UserID to identify everyone in documents or pictures and in file names.
