Yes, I was referring to endnotes. It definitely does not use the subsequent
citation format when and in the way it should.
I tried footnotes as you suggested and it appears to work but with some very
significant limitations.
I will be submitting a BUG report to Millennia with no expectations. In the
meantime I will be looking for a software package that does endnotes and
citations correctly.
These are the issues I have found and will be submitting them as a BUG Report.
They pertain specific to the Descendant Narrative Report. Other reports were
not tested.
1. Subsequent Citations do not print in footnotes and endnotes correctly.
a. Endnotes do not print. Only the full source citation is printed.
b. Footnotes do print, BUT:
i. The
Text/Comments are not included.
2. The Edit the Source Detail Overrides do not override with the
Customized Footnote or Subsequent Citation from the source detail. The Output
Preview does show the override as it should print.
If anyone on the list can add to them please do.
The Chicago Manual of Style describes subsequent references to a source as:
“When citing a work that has already been cited, you may simply give the
author's last name, a shortened version of the title, followed by a comma and
the page or pages cited.
Book:
2. Patterson, Slavery, 31.
Article:
3. Patterson, "Affirmative Action," 10.”

You say ‘footnotes/endnotes’, but are you sure that you checked both? We have
complained for nearly 4 years that subsequent citations appear for footnotes,
but are not used in endnotes. I didn’t re-test this on the current release. If
this is still the case, I suggest logging yet another bug report. There are
also certain types of reports that have never supported subsequent citations,
such as family group sheets. There were some other issues, at the time, such as
the source detail not being abbreviated if there was an override in the master
source.

After trying everything that I can possibly think of, can anyone clarify how to
get a subsequent Citation to print?
I used the Source Writer to create a source.
On the Edit Master Source Definition page there is an Output Preview.
The Help file states:
“To the right of the input section is the Output Preview. As you enter the
information about the source detail, it is instantly processed and displayed in
three different formats so that you can see how it will look when included on a
report or book. The Footnote/Endnote Citation output is used for the first
occurrence of a footnote (at the bottom of each page where a source is cited)
or endnote (at the end of each generation, chapter, or book) on a report. The
Subsequent Citation is used in the same places as the footnotes and endnotes
but uses a condensed format that doesn't require as much room. The Bibliography
is printed at the end of a report and is a summary of all the master sources
cited in the report and is shown in alphabetical order.”

I have been totally unsuccessful in getting the Subsequent Citation to appear
as shown above. I am creating a Descendant Narrative Report and it always shows
the complete Footnote/Endnote Citation.
Does anyone have an idea what I am missing?
