Neil, I’m not sure I completely understand the second bug, but I’m sure you will provide samples with your bug report. I assume you are checking the little checkbox to use the citation.
The first bug sounds suspiciously like one of the other big discussions we have had off and on here on the LUG. I filed a detailed bug report (long ago) about just which fields are omitted, or not, in the subsequent citation. The fix would be rather complicated, however. Here is an excerpt from our March 2009 LUG discussion: I think of a template-driven citation as consisting of 4 groupings of fields: - master fields that always appear - master fields that disappear on subsequent citations - detail fields that always appear - detail fields that disappear on subsequent citations It's that last one that's the rub. These fields currently disappear on any subsequent citation of the master source. I want them to reappear in certain cases, .... (The rules for such cases will be complicated.) In the meantime, some of us have worked around this by placing certain data values in alternative fields, depending on the source template. This requires some experimentation with which fields are dropped. Frankly, I seldom want data in the text or comment field to print even on the initial citation, so it is not something that I would use to differentiate subsequent citations. There is usually some field in the template where you can add or append your differentiating data and not have it dropped. (Don’t be a slave to the field labels.) Have a look at the thread in the archive. The e-mail from Connie Sheets on March 30, 2009, might help you with both issues, below, as we discussed the behavior of overrides at both the master and detail levels. Yes, I was referring to endnotes. It definitely does not use the subsequent citation format when and in the way it should. I tried footnotes as you suggested and it appears to work but with some very significant limitations. I will be submitting a BUG report to Millennia with no expectations. In the meantime I will be looking for a software package that does endnotes and citations correctly. These are the issues I have found and will be submitting them as a BUG Report. They pertain specific to the Descendant Narrative Report. Other reports were not tested. 1.. Subsequent Citations do not print in footnotes and endnotes correctly. 1.. Endnotes do not print. Only the full source citation is printed. 2.. Footnotes do print, BUT: i. The Text/Comments are not included. 2.. The Edit the Source Detail Overrides do not override with the Customized Footnote or Subsequent Citation from the source detail. The Output Preview does show the override as it should print. The Chicago Manual of Style describes subsequent references to a source as: “When citing a work that has already been cited, you may simply give the author's last name, a shortened version of the title, followed by a comma and the page or pages cited. If this is still the case, I suggest logging yet another bug report. There are also certain types of reports that have never supported subsequent citations, such as family group sheets. There were some other issues, at the time, such as the source detail not being abbreviated if there was an override in the master source. The Subsequent Citation is used in the same places as the footnotes and endnotes but uses a condensed format that doesn't require as much room. The Bibliography is printed at the end of a report and is a summary of all the master sources cited in the report and is shown in alphabetical order.” This is how my preview looks: Footnote/Endnote Citation: Sybil Noyes, Charles Thornton Libby, and Walter Goodwin Davis, Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire (1928-1939) (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1988). Subsequent Citation: Sybil Noyes, Charles Thornton Libby, and Walter Goodwin Davis, Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire. Bibliography: Sybil Noyes, Charles Thornton Libby, and Walter Goodwin Davis, . Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire. 1928-1939. Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1988 I have been totally unsuccessful in getting the Subsequent Citation to appear as shown above. I am creating a Descendant Narrative Report and it always shows the complete Footnote/Endnote Citation. Does anyone have an idea what I am missing?
