It does take time to learn how to use your program. You say that you have set it to open with your family tree, presumably using Options>Customise. For me, this setting does work.
You ask where is your family file, provided Legacy is installed to the default, and you have not told legacy to save it elsewhere (like a thumb drive), you will find it in C:\Legacy\Data, so using File>Open Family File you should set the box at the top of the Open Screen to that location. You should then find your family file in the large box below: it is of the form *.fdb where the * is your file name.
