As others have pointed out, your backup is a .zip file. You can't open it but you can restore it. ^That is what a backup is for. The .fdb file is updated all the time, you don't need to save it at the end.
In the Customise menu, you can specify your thumb drive to be the default directory for all your data, but then move or copy your existing data to it. HTH, Doug.
