Marie: Following your suggestion I did not find what I thought to be an appropriate guide. Jurisdiction for my situation was not addressed. The type of document was not mentioned. Mills discussed deeds, transfers and all sorts of other legal document originated at local or state levels. The document I possess is a typewritten two sided original honorable discharge with type-overs and other typing errors. It has an original fountain pen signature. This document was handed to my father in 1943 as he was discharged. The document was produced by the US Army at Fort Leonard Wood.
I was hoping that a choice for a source existed in Source Writer. Who has jurisdiction for the origination of this kind document ( it has a form number and is actually a pretty document with the Army eagle on it's face)? Is it the US Army, Ft. Leonard Wood, or is it the United States as originator? As an aside this document has caused consternation and some turmoil several times in the past when it has been presented at the request for military service and discharge confirmation since it is not the usual DD 214.
