The following works on the Deluxe version. I assume it will work on the free version. While on your desktop open Legacy and create a backup file by going to File > Backup Family File... Legacy will create the backup family file in a compressed (Zipped) folder. Transfer the compressed (Zipped) folder (i.e. the backup family file) to your laptop via a jump drive (a.k.a. memory stick or thumb drive). You could even email it to yourself if you do not have another way to move a file from your desktop to your laptop. Transfer the compressed (Zipped) folder onto your laptop. If you emailed it to yourself, download the compressed (Zipped) folder from the email onto your laptop. While on your laptop open Legacy and go to File > Restore Family File... open the compressed (Zipped) folder and you are in business. You may find the "Backup Tips and Pointers" helpful at: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/helpMediaBackups.aspIf you are moving pictures you will want to follow these instructions: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/tipsPicturesMoving.asp

Then transfer your files from your computer via jump drive. Then search for the files when you open legacy. Sorry I can not explain better as I'm not on my computer Rich Sent from my iPhone On Mar 21, 2013, at 1:43 AM, "Lena" <[email protected]> wrote: I have had the free standard edition for 17 years on my desk top.
