Ron,

I agree that the post in question was rather more overt in its presentation
that that which is customary, but advertising in one form or another is very
common on all mailing lists.

We regularly see suggestions as to how programs such as LTools or Families,
not to mention all the add-ons which Legacy recommend/sell, these pass
without comment because they are usually suggested in a way that helps a
user overcome a problem. These also walk and quack like a duck
!

On balance I do think your comment was a little harsh, although I do see
where you are coming from.

Bobby,
Unfortunately, Millennia folks have the final say, so it doesn't matter that
some of us dislike the idea of the user list being used for commercials.
Bottom line as far as I am concerned, if it walks like a duck and quacks
like a duck - it is definitely a duck. Doesn't matter if it is free or fee
based I still saw it as an unwated commercial.

I think most of us feel "Ditto". Same as telling about a new free database
on familysearch.org

Jim's a long time Legacy user and I've corresponded with him about Legacy
numerous times. I see his post as sharing something that he's found which
can be used along with web pages and the GENDEX index created in Legacy.

It doesn't appear that he's promoting his own product, which a commercial
would be.

He did mention that it supports Legacy's Gendex indexing. Something we can
use that index for! The Index can be created by selecting that option on the
"Other" tab of the Web Page Creation window.

Besides, the site is free!

Sincerely,
Sherry
