Gary - I'll let someone else advise you on what to do now - but programs like Legacy or TMG or RM6 - which contain multiple interrelated data files - should never be synced in real time. A transmission glitch in a byte or two of one file will corrupt the database. It has happened. Only backups (a single file) should be synced. Word, PDF, and Text files are different from database files.
