I posted here because Legacy, as far as I can tell, is the only program on the machine which is having a problem, the driver may be specific to the hardware, and it has apparently worked perfectly with this same version of Legacy for more than a year. On balance, it's more likely that a problem has developed with this copy of Legacy than with a driver which continues to work fine with other programs.
Thanks, Brian/support. Yes, I've shut down and restarted. It's my wife's laptop, so I can't try things like a hard reset while running or cycling the power supply, and I doubt a soft reset would do much. I do appreciate your advice to install over rather than uninstall first, and will do that if nothing else turns up. This Legacy is Deluxe, but I don't use it so I've been remiss regarding updates - basically waiting for Legacy 8.
