Thanks all. I entered the spouse as unknown first name and the children entered with last name blank for me to enter it.
I was lucky enough to come across an obit for the LEAVITT family that I am compiling all known descendants of, that it mentioned only son of [his mother], but also mentioned an uncle and others which confirmed the family I thought they belonged in. I haven't added this type data lately, but in adding children of a two person relationship, the surname of the Father seems to be added automatically, so what surname would be entered by Legacy if no Father were entered? An unknown parent can be entered as "Unknown" or just left blank. Enter as many "marriage" records as necessary to link children to their biological parents. One of the more interesting situations that is difficult to record in Legacy is a child that has been adopted by a single mother. The mother never had a spouse. Adopted children should be linked to their biological parents as well as their adopted parents. Hope that helps.
