You should be able to use a GEDCOM 5.5 export from the Family Tree Maker 2012 and import it into your Legacy 7.5 file. However, you may have trouble with media links, locations and sources. I recently completed an import with the following issues.
1. Locations in FTM now can include names and addresses. If you want to use geocoding in Legacy these should go into one of the event address fields not in the location field. They are shown in the gedcom with the tag for locations. 2. All types of media links are the same in FTM. In Legacy photos, videos, and files (docs, PDF's etc.) are stored separately. All media links are exported as the same type in the gedcom file. When imported into Legacy they all come in as photos. The link shows it's there but when you click on it nothing happens. 3. I've just started looking at my sources. It appears as though all master sources came in but they all came in as the basic source type (I prefer source writer). Much of the source data ended up in general comments nothing went into source text. I've not yet looked at the source detail (citations). I just exported an FTM 2012 file to a GED file and then imported that into a Legacy file. The file has over 10,000 people. Can we merger these electronically without having to manual enter data from one to the other? Any help would be appreciated.
