check the line colour set under
Appearance > Line

As for saving the chart without the white background
Couple of options there depending on your digital scrapbooking program and
what colour your page will be
You can either set your page background colour under Appearance >
Background > Page Colour - Set Colour
Or, if you are using a program that supports blend modes (eg Photoshop or
PS Elements) you can export as JPG or PNG and then (assuming you have no
pictures in your chart) chose Blend Mode Multiply or Darken
That will remove your white background and bring your scrapbook paper and
other elements through.
This way you can also put different papers under each person's box if you
want to.

Would like to see the end result, might get me scrapping again, left it
alone for too long
