Syble, You NEVER usually go from Legacy to Legacy via a Gedcom but with a Legacy File.
Legacy 8 opens and converts to the new format all earlier Legacy files perfectly well. You don't have to go anywhere near a Gedcom. Some people use Gedcoms regularly to use other programs to publish on the web. Some people use Gedcoms regularly to share with relations who don't use Legacy. Some people use Gedcoms regularly or occasionally to put their tree on Ancestry etc (This is the only use I have for a Gedcom) Some, for some reason, use it for Backup. There seems no reason to do this. If Legacy disappears, it won't disappear overnight from your computer and you can make a Gedcom then. Legacy has its own backup system that everyone should use every time it pops up on exist. This backup keeps the database in Legacy format. Legacy 8 restores backups made with earlier versions of Legacy. Re bugs - bugs in any program are inevitable. The test group is too small to cover every possible combination of computers and settings. At some stage you have to say: it's good enough - and release. I haven't had problems with regular use for some time but do with some of the more advanced features. Re Legacy importing its own GEDCOM. I think Ron is overstating the problems. It may be a problem that the Sourcewriter Sources are converted to Basic format when exporting a Legacy Gedcom. But that's not an import issue. Other issues don't involve the basic data.
