All I did was copy my 7.5 data files over to a new data folder for 8 then had 8 convert it. Anyone who exports to a GEDCOM is going to have a lot of work ahead of them. I remember exporting to a GEDCOM from FTM back in 2009 and I'm still fixing all the problems it created. FTM doesn't like users to transfer to a better program without giving you more headaches.

More to the point, how can I get my data into v.8 ? In the past, I have downloaded updates and upgrades, then opened my Family file knowing that I could not go back to the previous version, but I really have reservations about doing that this time due all the work I've put into these files, and I want to keep v 7.5 as is, but yet move all my data in v.8 to experiment with. Is there a way to do this?
