That's pretty much what I'm doing, too. Not that I've done a lot of updating in recent weeks, but when I do, it will be in v7 until I'm ready to switch to v8 full-time.
Meanwhile, I can learn about new stuff in v8 and have the program running while I read posts about it, to check out where to find things and how to use them. I really like that the two can be running at the same time without having to jump through the hoops that we used to have to, to have v6 and v7 running side-by-side for example.
