Hi Pam, I have the same issue and have logged a support problem report on Dec 4 without a response as yet.
I’ve tried all that you have done plus Re installed Legacy 8 to the latest build, re installed Geo Database multiple times, removed all other traces of Legacy V 7, started from scratch with different family files and a new family file, tried doing everything in Windows Administrator mode but I still get “The Geo Database cannot be found. Click Ok to download…” I’m on Windows 7 with the latest updates installed, plus no errors encountered when installing Legacy or the Geo Database. I’m getting very frustrated as I used the Geo Databases extensively in V7.5 plus I haven’t had a response from support apart from automated emails to my original problem report and my subsequent “Please give me an update” emails. As soon as I hear anything or figure it out I’ll pass it on. I’ve had over 25 years supporting and managing PCs and technology in general, but this is really annoying me. The “installation” still doesn’t work for me, I’ve tried it several times; tried deleting all the old tries, starting over, clicking on the blue download “exe” title, I get the “wise wizard installation process”; I see all the files going through as it’s processing, and asks me to select Destination directory, which it lists as under Legacy\Geobase, but then it tells me “this directory already exists”…it will only let me continue if I press the yes button confirming the same directory, and then proceeds to “successfully” install, the first “clean” time(after I’ve deleted the excess downloads), but any subsequent tries tell me that it’s not downloading correctly. Yesterday, when I first tried also to download the most recent build, I got the same error message, but tonight that download worked ok. Now, I don’t even see the new geo listed under folders on the download drive only the older v 7 one, and when I click on the v 8 geo button in family view, it says database can’t be found, that I need to download the region files I’m interested in… what am I missing? The geo w/ v 7 works. I have both v 8 and v 7 installed on my machine currently. Do I need to uninstall something and start over? Thanks for patience with my limited tech thinking. . .??!! Pam From: Goslings [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, December 11, 2013 11:18 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] Trouble downloading geo database Thanks all for trying to help.. .yes, I have run the “installer” and I get a message that it’s “been successfully” installed. But there seems to be a problem, and now tonight, after 2-3 x trying again, I get a message that says it “may not” have been successfully installed, AFTER it says yes it was successfully installed. Could it be conflicting with the 7.5 I still have loaded on the computer? I am still using my v. 7.5, only trying out 1 family line in v 8 to test out how it all works first before I switch over to v. 8. Here are some folder ID’s if this helps: The newly downloaded version shows up (all 3 x) under the “downloads” folder, not in the folder with the other Legacy application, if that makes a difference? The installer states it will be downloaded in C;/legacy/Geo. When I go to do a search for it, all the computer ID’s/finds is what looks like the older original install of v 7 because in its properties, the last modified date of that particular geo DB file is listed as 2011, when I first started using Legacy. THAT particular geoDB is located under the “Legacy” folder, with subfolders such as “data”, “colors”, etc, but the modified dates on all those folders are mixed, some from the last 2 days, and some from 2011, if that makes a difference? I thought that v 7 and v 8 were to go into different locations? But then maybe I’m not understanding enough of how that works…I have made some customization changes and data changes in the last 2 days in both the v 7 and v 8 family files, if that makes any difference. So, is there a conflict here with how it’s loading? Or loading to wrong folder? Or.. .??? Thanks again For any help. . .
