I think this is a case of apples and oranges and you are both right in your contexts. In the normal children column view Kirsty is seeing that the highlighted children' names etc remain the colour for males, females and unknown gender (I see the same). I think Sherry is talking about the children list in Scrolling/Grid view where the gender colours do not apply and where the text colour for a highlighted child changes to white.
