Thank you, problem solved.

I was looking for "  the *Modified Date* in the lower right corner of
the main window". I wasn't expecting to mouse over a blank space in my
blue background to find the white box!

If you search Help for "Last modified date" you get the old Legacy 7.5
series of "Tips and Tricks" screens which are now well out of date.
