Wendy, What Mary was talking about I think is in Legacy7.5, when you generate a pedigree or descendant chart using the icons on the toolbar, there is a brief flick through the Pedigree or Descendant Chart setup screen and the the chart appears.
If you generate these charts in L7.5 by going through the reports menu then your case occurs - you need to hit Preview to get the chart. The toolbar icons she is using were probably not in the default setup but she has added them from the icons available. Pedigree and descendant charts initiated from toolbar icons in Legacy 8 take you through the same path as if you started from the Report Menu, and you must hit Preview to see the chart. I prefer this new system because in L7.5 I often had to go back and reset some of the setup parameters and have a second go at the chart.
