I managed to sort out this problem, I have many files archived on various external US drives so I plugged in one of these and set off the Media Relinker it found all except for about half a dozen so I printed out the list then let it Gather all these files and the ones scattered around my internal drives. I now have all the files in one folder.
I will go back some time and find the missing files as I will have copies somewhere.
