Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Issue with text copied from Onenote 2013 to Legacy

Chris,

I appreciate the link.  Like the author, I use both Onenote and Evernote.  I do
find Onenote to be a far superior program as I am more interested in organizing
than I am in clipping.  There is another well-know genealogy program who's text
editor accepts notes from Onenote without any issues.  They have an option to
strip all formatting from pasted text.  Since Legacy is by far a superior
program, I have no doubt that the Legacy programmers could  redo their text
editor to work the same way.  In my opinion, Onenote is the best note
organizing program and Legacy is the best genealogy program.  I prefer using
the best, not the second best so I am hoping that the Legacy folks can "fix"
this issue.

One Note and Evernote are two different beasts and work completely differently.
That you can copy one note text into MSWord and then into Legacy should not be
a surprise as both products are from Microsoft. You must remember that Legacy
is a database product not a word processor. Databases do not like the special
characters used in word processors.  In my IT days, people used to copy
directly from MSWord into the database causing huge cleanup costs before we
knew better. Below is a link which describes the differences between the
OneNote and Evernote products.

I have been using both Evernote and Onenote to create a transcription of census
information.  I then copy portions of that transcription to individual event
notes in Legacy.  If I copy the information from Evernote and paste into
Legacy, there is no problem (the information copied is editable text as it
should be).

If I copy the same information from Onenote and paste into Legacy it is not
editable text, it pastes as an image.  I can copy that same text from Onenote
and paste into a word document, an email etc., and it is editable text.
Therefore, the problem does seem to be specific to Legacy and the way it is
handling the formatting.

I find Onenote to be far superior to Evernote, therefore I would like to find a
viable solution to being able to paste text from Onenote into Legacy.  I am
using Legacy8, but the problem also existed in Legacy7.

I would be interested in hearing if anyone else has found a solution for this
problem.
