There is no limit in MS Access and Legacy to the number of links you can create in the media centre for pictures and files.
In some respects the answer to the second part of your question depend on how you are storing the digital files of the articles. 1. If the articles are stored as document files (pdf, text, Word Files etc.) then there should be no performance penalty since Legacy is not trying to load the files for display until you double click on it in the media centre. 2. If the articles are stored as picture files (.tiff, .bmp, .jpg etc.) then there may be a performance issue based on the file size and number of linked files. Large files (MB and higher) and many files may slow Legacy down because it does load the file for display in the media centre.
