There is no limit in MS Access and Legacy to the number of links you can
create in the media centre for pictures and files.

In some respects the answer to the second part of your question depend
on how you are storing the digital files of the articles.

1. If the articles are stored as document files (pdf, text, Word Files
etc.) then there should be no performance penalty since Legacy is not
trying to load the files for display until you double click on it in the
media centre.

2. If the articles are stored as picture files (.tiff, .bmp, .jpg etc.)
then there may be a performance issue based on the file size and number
of linked files. Large files (MB and higher) and many files may slow
Legacy down because it does load the file for display in the media centre.
