There is no need for your pics to be in one
folder or in a particular place though it's
better if they're in subfolders of a particular folder.

This doesn't mean that you ignore setting a
default folder in Legacy at Options 6.2

I have a heap of subfolders under one folder that
I keep in my Dropbox. That's the parent folder I
designate as my default folder.

Legacy 8 expects many will have sub-folders and
there are options so that they're not flattened if you use Gather My Media.

On the other hand you can use it to put everything into one folder.

I don't have my original scans/copies linked to
Legacy. Legacy generally doesn't need anything of
that size. I have them safely elsewhere and backed up on external drives.

I don't use the Legacy multimedia backup unless
I'm wanting to extract just some of the pics for
a particular exported branch. My attached images
are automatically backed up on Dropbox and synced
to other computers attached to Dropbox. They're
also backed up to external drives.
