Saves one set of hassles and introduces another ;-) So long as you can remember to mark the living, living, that's fine. For me it is too big a privacy risk to have people automatically set to deceased when added.
The Legacy 7 Advanced Set Living Tool was as effective as the Legacy 8 one. I don't think there has been a change in this tool for awhile. There has been changes from when it was first introduced to take account of more surrounding family.
