Hi Gregory,

I hope you have had a look at Legacy - you can download the basic version for
free. You can do a gedcom import of your tree and give it a test run. You can
upgrade to the Deluxe version of Legacy at any time without any loss of data.
I do not have the credentials you are looking for however I suggest the main
issue could be the assignment of unrecognized fields while importing a gedcom.
If you are wanting to ask questions at the 'system level' I'm sure you will
have no problem with a gedcom import. I believe Legacy is written in MS Access
as all of the database files are viewable using Access.

I changed from FTM years ago when FTM could no longer handle my file of about
35,000. I switched to Legacy and was so glad I did. I now have over 400,000
names in my file and no problems.

FTM's interface was 'tab' based as is Legacy - switching from FTM2014 will
involve some new learning! I have kept up with FTM to v2011 in order to help
others. I used to keep up with several other programs for the same reason and
have always liked Legacy the best.

This is an active User Group with a lot of talented people who are willing to
help - for free. So, like Jay says, ask those questions. By the way, there
are lots of bells and whistles in Legacy.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Switch From FTM 2014

I have been using Family Tree Maker for nearly ten years, but to me, it’s
obvious that they are never going to really get serious about their product. I
have a number of serious, seemingly irreconcilable problems with it and have
decided that as painful as it’s going to be, I want to switch software
packages. Legacy v8 seems to have generated a lot of buzz. What I’m asking
the members of this list is how I can find a real Legacy architect – someone
who knows how the product is built – so I can ask questions about the system
level functionality of the product and not just bells and whistles. This
person should know all of the pitfalls of GEDCOM import and understand what the
term ‘data validation’ means.

I am willing to pay the right individual to help me migrate my FTM database of
9300+ individuals, but free advice is also welcome! I have a complete list of
requirements. Thanks in advance to any and all who can point me in the right
direction.
