Priscilla,

First you have to understand that there are two parts that need to be
looked at.

1. Event Definitions are where the sentence is formatted using a
combination of entered text and field definitions which are filled in
when the sentence is used. The fields are the parts of the sentence
enclosed by square brackets [FirstHeShe] for example. The fields derive
their contents from the person or marriage to which the event belongs
and the details entered for that event like the event date, place,
notes, description etc.

2. The event options Sherry mentioned are related to reports and how
events are included in them. When you first open a report you will see
various settings and a Report Options button to select features for the
report. The Include tab of the Report Options lets you decide whether
the report will include Events or not and has a button to open a list of
Event Options like whether to include Notes or not, what to include with
shared events etc. On the Format tab of the Report Options there is a
button to select the Event Format. Here you can select either a sentence
form along with various ways to display the events, as bullet points,
numbered sub paragraphs etc. or to use a List style for events which
uses an event field oriented display like Census: 1810, place, Notes (If
notes are requested on the event settings).
